Got Moods?

Tips from the Trail
The following methods may help regulate your mood when life deals you a downer.
1. Turn on your “positive” play list. If music speaks to you, this is a great way to get back into the moment and change your mood state. Learn more about music therapy from Goodtherapy.org.
2. STOPP – Stop what you are doing and Take a deep breathe. Observe what you are thinking about, what and where you are feeling the emotion in your body. Pull back, and with a larger view of the situation ask yourself if you have all the facts. Is there another way of looking at the situation? What would I tell a friend if he was experiencing this same thing? Practice this STOPP technique every time you find yourself time traveling to the past, or into the future where fear resides. This will bring you back into the moment, and over time you will learn to think and feel at the same time.
3. Seek help from a therapist if your mood shifts concern you or your loved ones. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment modality, which helps change your thinking, which can change your life.
