Allison has been a Nurse Practitioner since 1980. She received a Master’s degree in Pediatric Nursing in 1985. Subsequently, she spent several years working with homeless families and developed the current pediatric health care program that exists today at Salt Lake City’s 4th Street Clinic.
She’s also worked with children who suffer from asthma teaching them self-management skills. Allison spent time training rural public health nurses to identify at-risk children using developmental screening tools.
Allison enjoys third world non-profit work. When her children were teenagers, she and her family traveled to South America during summer breaks to provide needed health care to under-served communities.
Over the years, Allison became more interested in the psycho-social dynamics of families, returning to graduate school in 2007 to hone those skills. She received a Post Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing. Allison is also trained in EMDR therapy.
In 2010, Allison was walking in the woods with her dog and realized how much she needs time in the outdoors to clear her head and gain perspective on her own life. She had a light bulb moment and thought, “I am going to walk and talk with my clients.” Trailtalk was born.
After trying several therapists for my teen, we finally found Trailtalk. My daughter was comfortable talking to the therapist as she walked her dog along the trails. Having her canine best friend along made therapy more relaxing. Allison has patience with teens like my daughter who wants someone to really listen and validate, not just give advice….
