Smell the Flowers to address your stress
It helps to have a number of ways to regulate your mood. If you can’t exercise, talk to a friend or leave what you are doing, this tool might work for you. Smell the flowers is another mindfulness exercise to gain control over your anxiety during the day.
Find a store that sells lots lotions and do a smell test. Pick a scent that you really like. Chapstick works if you like spearmint or cherry smells. Once you find the scent you like fill a small container (available at any grocery type store) that you can put in your pocket or purse. Smell the scent and imagine a place where you feel really calm and safe. Many people see themselves sitting on the beach or hiking on a mountain trail. Find that place and really develop the scene in your mind’s eye. Smell the scent, hear the sounds, feel the warm breeze, hear the birds or water. Breathe deep and smell your special scent.
Next time you get stressed and need to take the edge off, take out your special scent container and go to your calm place in your head. It might sound weird, but if you practice your heart rate will drop and you will calm down.

flowers keep the light.”
