What are your Heart’s Desires?

March 15, 2013 by Your Emotional Sherpa®

What are your Heart’s Desires?

Posted by: Your Emotional Sherpa®, March 15, 2013

Danielle LaPorte’s book, The Desire Map offers an innovative approach to goal setting. Her website goes into great detail about how traditional goal setting approaches are backwards. What if you figured out how we wanted to feel day-to-day and then set our intentions? Gain inner clarity first and outer action will follow. As I browsed her site, I started thinking about my life purpose and goals from this unique perspective. I thought of five areas I want inner clarity about.

Contentment: I desire a sense of peace. I want to live each day in the moment and not worry about the past or what has not yet happened in the future.

Connection: I desire emotional connectedness and transparency with family and friends. I enjoy deep, meaningful conversations with loved ones. I value quality time with others.

Contribution: I desire to contribute to the well-being of others. I want to encourage and support people as they work to improve the quality of their lives. I want to give to the greater good of society.

Community: I desire to live, work, and play in communities of people with similar interests and ideas. I want to visit other types of communities to learn how they function.

Creativity: I desire to create ideas, images and items that are beautiful, fun and bring joy to others and myself.

The next step is to figure out how to incorporate these key principles into my daily life.

I challenge you to consider your own heart’s desires. Are you content with your life? Like using the rudder on a boat, pondering these existential questions will keep  your life on course and not drift in a different direction.

Happy Trails.
